When I was 3 years old my parents had the idea to start documenting our constant travels as a family. Yip, we tend to do a lot of those. My first being at the “tender age “of 2 weeks when we boarded a plane to South Africa to only fly back home 8 months later! The idea they had was to document all these journeys through the innocent and naïve eyes of myself and my brother Jason. Hence the name “Amy meets”. However as a 3 year old I unfortunately didn’t really live up to their acting and storytelling expectations and neither did my 2 year older brother Jason. I think "camera shy" best describes this. After many attempts, they decided to give it a miss. Now at the age of 7 we are going to give it another try ;-) Jason and myself are going to take you back to your roots where our lives, namely your lives started without prejudice, where colour, religion and socio economic background don’t and shouldn’t play a role in our society. A time when we are most observant, when we soak up everything that we see and experience. Above all its our adventure story told in the form of a travel journal mainly by me and my 9 year old brother Jason. Here is where my journey starts …..Our first country being South Africa, the place where my mom was born….
Our Journey
Before mommy and papa had us kids they spent a lot of time travelling and living in different countries. After living in Germany and Mexico, In 2005 they decided to move to Barcelona, Spain and that’s where me and my brother were born. Jason and I are very fortunate to speak English, from mommy , German from papa and Spanish and Catalan from our my school mates. Mommy was born and grew up in South Africa. After her law degree she decided to travel to Germany, thinking she was only going to stay for a year or two. 6 years later she found herself on a plane to Mexico on a 3-year contract for a swiss logistics company that she had been working for in Germany. I call her crazy because I think it describes her temperament. She´s always ready to jump in and do something totally “unconventional” like singing and dancing with us whenever and wherever she wants. A free spirit in the true sense of the word. Sometimes I think I am a lot like her 1 week before boarding the plane from Germany to Mexico city, she met Jochen, her husband and my papa. In 2000 when the internet wasn´t yet much of a thing, the days long before Facebook, skype, not to mention WhatsApp they still managed to stay “connected“. After a 3 year long distance relationship, they celebrated a fairy tale wedding, first on a beach in South Africa and then in a castle in Germany. When my mommy met papa he was working as a cameraman for german television and dedicating his time to personal projects and expeditions. Today his 20 years of experience in the fields of extreme sports and gruelling expeditions has helped make a name for himself as a documentary director and Director of photography. I’m so proud of papa, he is going to fly to Berlin next month because he won a prize for a documentary he made last year.
